S. Korean Papers Accuse Park Geun Hye of Defaming Spirit of May 18 Popular Uprising
Pyongyang, May 22 (KCNA) -- The south Korean paper Hangyore on May 18 carried an editorial denouncing the Park Geun Hye group for defaming the spirit of the May 18 Kwangju Popular Uprising.

The editorial said:

The May 18 movement for democracy constitutes a core in the history of the struggle for democracy and "March for Dear Ones" is the song loved by the people in the protracted struggle for demanding a probe into the truth about the suppression of the Kwangju uprising and the punishment of those responsible for it.

But the present regime didn't allow people to sing the song at an event for commemorating the 34th anniversary of the May 18 movement for democracy.

The "prime minister" made reckless remarks that a "resolution of the National Assembly is not a recommendation" and a "mistake may lead to the division of public opinion as there is a strong opposition to designation of commemorative song."

It is necessary to make regulations for putting those intentionally defaming the May 18 spirit under control.

On the same day, the south Korean Kyunghyang Daily News in an editorial said that the ceremony for marking the 34th anniversary of the May 18 movement for democracy held in Kwangju on May 18 fully showed that the May 18 spirit is being defamed under the Park "regime."

The regime sent members of conservative organizations and riff-raffs to the venue of the ceremony, making it a mayhem, the editorial noted, adding that bereaved families of the victims of the Kwangju uprising deplored what value the regime seeks to defend by using those disguised as mourners.
