Investigation into Police's Abuse of Power Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, May 18 (KCNA) -- The Citizens Solidarity for Democratic Society of south Korea on May 15 filed a suit to the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office against the director and vice-director of the Police Agency and the director of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency for giving instructions to block the protests as regards the ferry Sewol sinking accident.

A few days ago the bereaved families paid a protest call to KBS which insulted the victims of the sinking accident and next day they headed for Chongwadae to meet Park Geun Hye and a lot of citizens joined them.

The police cracked down on them for the mere reason that they were putting in mourners' clothes or putting up slogan boards.

On April 20, the police blocked the bereaved families of the victims trying to go to Chongwadae to meet Park in protest against the delayed rescue operations for those missing.

The vice-director of the Police Agency tried to disperse the bereaved families, blaring that it is illegal to go to Seoul.

It was reported that later the director of the Police Agency admitted by himself that it was done by his order.

The Citizens Solidarity for Democratic Society indicted those responsible for it to the prosecution, terming such suppression by the police abuse of power and violation of human rights.

Meanwhile, the organization submitted to the Police Agency and the Human Rights Committee a written request on investigating abuse of power and violation of human rights by the police.

The written request said the police should stop treating ordinary people as criminals without fail, demanding a certain investigation into the police's suppression, punishment of those responsible for it.
