Japan Police Agency Searches Businesses, Companies of Koreans Belonging to Chongryon
Tokyo, May 16 (KCNA) -- The Japan Police Agency formed a "joint investigation headquarters" with police headquarters in Kyoto, Kanagawa, Yamaguchi and Shimane Prefectures and forcibly searched 20 places of businesses and companies run by Koreans affiliated to the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) on May 12 on charges of violation of the "law on foreign exchange".

The police authorities took such action, charging that a company operated by a Korean violated the law as the Armillaria mushrooms it imported from China were the "products of Korea".

The outrageous violence ahead of the 23rd Congress of Chongryon is timed to coincide with the rejection by the Tokyo High Court of the appeal submitted by Chongryon as regards the decision on allowing the sale of the Korean Hall. This is an intolerable politically-motivated suppression and human rights abuses committed against Chongryon and Koreans in Japan.

Lawyers who were present at the search scenes and other figures in the field of legal circles termed the recent search a fascist outrage aimed at the suppression of Chongryon as it was an illegal search in wanton breach of the criminal procedure code. They were consistent in asserting that lurking behind the search is a sinister attempt to have detailed survey and control of Chongryon and fabricate new charges and thus forcibly search institutions at all levels including the Central Standing Committee of Chongryon at any moment.

The court is also an accomplice of the illegal search as it issued a search warrant for those related to the Korean Goods Sales Company and the marine pharmaceutical company who had nothing to do with the above-said charge.

The hideous politically-motivated suppression and human rights abuses committed against Chongryon, an overseas Koreans' organization of the dignified Juche Korea, and Koreans in Japan can never be tolerated and the Japanese authorities will have to hold full responsibility for all consequences to be entailed by the police agency's fascist tyrannical act.
