Dismissal of High-ranking Public Officials Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, May 16 (KCNA) -- The Citizens Solidarity for Democratic Society held a press conference in Seoul on May 12 demanding the dismissal of high-ranking public officials who caused a social furor with their thoughtless remarks concerning the ferry Sewol tragedy, according to Thongil News, a south Korean internet newspaper.

Speakers at the press conference quoted Pak Sung Chun, chief of the Patriots and Veterans Affairs Agency, as saying "the president and the government have hard times due to 'Sewol' sinking accident. It is customary in south Korea to attack the government and the president in disregard of the main cause if something happens".

These remarks mean that the bereaved families and the people made mistakes when they urged the "government" to take responsibility and Park to make an apology for the failed rescue operation and the failure in putting the accident under control, the speakers said.

Min Kyong Uk, a spokesman for Chongwadae, defended the minister of Education who went so impudent as to eat instant noodles before the bereaved families, the speakers noted, adding he insulted them with such talk about "pure bereaved families".

If the authorities have the intent to make a sincere apology for the accident, they should depose Pak Sung Chun and Min Kyong Uk, to begin with, as they mocked the people, the speakers stressed.
