Anniversary of Instructions Given by Kim Jong Il to Schools to Specialize in Particular Sports Events Observed
Pyongyang, April 18 (KCNA) -- A national meeting took place at the Central Youth Hall on Friday to mark the 40th anniversary of instructions given by leader Kim Jong Il to schools to specialize in particular sports events.

On April 18, Juche 63 (1974) he said it is good for schools to specialize in particular sports events like Taejong Senor Middle School (at that time) in Singye County, North Hwanghae Province in order to popularize physical culture and sports at schools. This would help train many reserve sports persons and rapidly develop the country's sports technique, he added.

His instructions serve as important guidelines for further developing physical culture and sports at schools, popularizing sports and bringing about an epochal turn in the work for training promising reserve sportspersons and developing the Juche-based sports technique.

Over the past four decades many sportspersons trained at school groups specializing in particular sports events have emerged as world and Asian title holders, heroes, people's sportspersons and merited sportspersons.

Jon Yong Nam, chairman of the Central Committee of the youth league, said in his report that Kim Jong Il's idea on stepping up the activities of the school groups specializing in particular sports events is being successfully carried forward by Marshal Kim Jong Un.

The reporter called upon all school sports teachers, members of the groups specializing in particular sports events and officials of the youth league to more dynamically wage the drive to carry out the plan of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) for building a sports power.

Present at the meeting were Kim Sung Du, chairman of the Education Commission, officials concerned and officials of the youth league and others.
