Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Work Marked
Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- A meeting was held at the People's Palace of Culture on Monday to mark the 40th anniversary of General Secretary Kim Jong Il's work "On Further Developing the Public Health Service".

The work, published on April 9, Juche 63 (1974), clarifies the essence and requirements of the socialist preventive medical science, importance of health care, and issue of improving it, the matter of developing medical science and technology and issues of revolutionizing and working-classizing public health workers, strengthening the party leadership on the healthcare and increasing the role of the officials.

Choe Thae Bok, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea, made a report.

He said that Kim Jong Il's work serves as important guidelines as it clearly indicates the orientation, ways and tasks for developing the Juche-oriented healthcare and an immortal banner for giving full play to the advantages of the socialist healthcare by bringing about a great revolutionary turn in the healthcare.

He referred to the successes made in the healthcare over the past four decades.

Many centers for healthcare appeared in different parts of the country and bases for producing pharmaceutical and medical instruments and Koryo medicines were built to enable the people to fully enjoy the benefits of medical service.

Medical science and technology made rapid progress as evidenced by the establishment of telemedicine system, development of new painless delivery method and the development of cardiovascular surgiology on a high level. And their successes have been introduced into clinical practice to rapidly put medical service on a scientific and IT basis.

The reporter said that the immortal feats Kim Jong Il performed by steadily developing the Korean-style socialist healthcare system centered on the popular masses thanks to his original idea and energetic leadership will shine forever.
