Halt to Suppression of Progressive Media Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, April 5 (KCNA) -- The All-People Measure Committee for Checking Moves to Close Newspaper Jaju Minbo in south Korea issued a statement on April 2 demanding a stop to suppression of progressive media.

The statement said that the Seoul City Authorities raised an administrative litigation against Jaju Minbo, accusing it for citing reports from the north as they are and refusing to criticize the north.

It went on:

It is unjustifiable to charge the newspaper with violation of the "Security Law" for the mere reason that it reported objective facts.

Moreover, the authorities are taking issue with Jaju Minbo only though professors Han Ho Sok and Kim Sang Il and others have contributed a series of their articles to other media.

Terming it suppression targeting Jaju Minbo, the statement continued:

The Seoul City authorities should cancel its administrative litigation against Jaju Minbo which has worked to embody the spirit of the June 15 joint declaration, the landmark in achieving independence, peace and reunification, and the October 4 declaration, the programme for its implementation, and opt for improving the inter-Koreans relations.

The Park Geun Hye "government" should stop at once its suppression of Jaju Minbo making efforts for the national reconciliation and cooperation under the uplifted banner of the independent reunification.

The all-people measure committee declares that it would turn out in the struggle for the freedom of expression and media together with conscientious media and human rights organizations.

The "government" and the Seoul City authorities should bear in mind that they would be condemned and punished by all Koreans and other progressives of the world if they turn away their face from the demand of the committee.
