Halt to War Maneuvers Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, March 28 (KCNA) -- 49 civic and public organizations of south Korea including the People's Action for Achieving Peace against War and the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification held a press conference in denunciation of the war exercises for aggression outside the U.S. embassy in Seoul on Mar. 26, according to the south Korean internet paper Thongil News.

The speakers said the Ssangryong drills expected to begin on Mar. 27 was the largest-ever landing drills with military hardware five times as many as the previous year involved.

They added that these war drills were staged in the past with main emphasis on attack from sea but they would be three-dimensional landing ones this year with airborne infiltration operation supplemented to assert their offensive nature.

It is as clear as noonday that the military confrontation would be further escalated on the Korean Peninsula if such drills are allowed to go on, they warned.

They demanded the south Korean and the U.S. authorities stop the Ssangryong drills at once and come out for negotiations for peace on the peninsula.

They staged a demonstration at the end of the press conference.
