Rodong Sinmun on Danger of U.S.-Japan Nexus for Modernization of Military Hardware
Pyongyang, March 16 (KCNA) -- The U.S. ambassador to Japan and the Japanese foreign minister recently announced that the two countries will jointly develop a littoral combat ship. Meanwhile, the U.S. Defense Department and the Japanese Defense Ministry said that the research on the joint development of the ship is pursuant to the U.S.-Japan "Defence Cooperation Guidelines".

Rodong Sinmun Sunday observes in a commentary in this regard:

Their decision is a reckless act of fanning Japan's moves for militarism and its preparation of reinvasion, and the part of the U.S. scheme to militarily dominate the Asia-Pacific region by using Japan as its stooge.

The commentary refers to the vicious intention of the U.S. instigating Japan's moves for militarism and Japan talking about joint development of the littoral combat ship with the U.S.

The U.S. tries to jointly develop the ship, vociferating about the U.S.-Japan "Defence Cooperation Guidelines". This is aimed to use Japan rushing headlong into militarism, obsessed with hysteria for reinvasion, as a shock brigade in realizing the U.S. strategy for dominating the Asia-Pacific region.

The situation in the Asia-Pacific region has recently become acute. The Japanese reactionaries are going to develop the ship, seize the initiative in the waters off Diaoyu islands claimed by China and Japan and thus hold a military edge in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Japanese reactionaries are working to achieve their ambition for overseas expansion with the backing of the U.S.

The situation in the Asia-Pacific region is uncontrollably worsening owing to the moves of the U.S. and Japanese reactionaries.

They would be well advised to behave themselves, bearing deep in mind that their moves for the modernization of military hardware are a reckless act of fanning up arms race in the region and driving the regional situation into tensions.
