Serious Youth Unemployment in S. Korea
Pyongyang, March 8 (KCNA) -- The south Korean internet newspaper Voice of People on Thursday carried an editorial on youth unemployment getting more serious as days go by.

The editorial said:

Enterprises have recently decreased the scale of employment for the first half year or not yet fixed it. This situation foresees that the youth employment rate this year will be further deteriorated than last year's which recorded the lowest in history.

One of two university graduates is now saddled with debts amounting to 12.75 million won on an average.

Young people immersed in debts before starting work have no opportunity to get job, so it is an era of youth misfortune, the editorial deplored.

What is more serious is that jobs for youth are to work as intern and more than half of interns receive low salaries, it said, and went on:

The present chief executive set forth a plan for settling the issue of youth jobs but the youth are turning their back on it.

The present "government" should clearly remember that young people staged large-scale actions, enraged at unemployment.

The editorial warned that the youth may deal a sledged hammer at the authorities who reneged on all commitments to settle unemployment.
