New Scientific Successes Achieved in Agriculture
Pyongyang, March 6 (KCNA) -- Scientists of the Academy of Agricultural Science have registered many successes conducive to boosting agricultural production.

The Crops Cultivation Institute under the academy has invented new farming methods and techniques.

Among them is a method of forcing rice seedlings.

The method gives full play to the biological character of cold-bed rice seedlings with less materials and labor saved while reducing fertilizer consumption by 60 percent and increasing per-hectare yield.

A method using potato sprouts makes it possible to get tens of seedlings from a potato.

A method based on green manure plants is also effective in boosting rice and maize production with less consumption of fertilizer.

The Plant Preservation Institute has developed new microbial agrochemicals.

One of them is microbial herbicide capable of exterminating more than 80 percent of barnyard grass, giving no adverse effect on the growth of paddy rice.

The institute is helping agrochemicals production bases now under construction in each province put the production of agricultural antibiotic on an industrial basis.

The antibiotic is also applicable to vegetables.
