Agrarian Reform Law Marks 68th Anniversary
Pyongyang, March 4 (KCNA) -- It has been 68 years since the promulgation of the historic Agrarian Reform Law in Korea.

At the time of Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule, peasants, the overwhelming majority of its population, were very poor as the most of arable land was owned by the Japanese imperialists, pro-Japanese elements and traitors to the nation.

The then situation in the country demanded correct settlement of the agrarian problem in order to free peasants from all kinds of exploitation and thus make them true masters of liberated Korea.

After acquainting himself in detail with the situation in rural areas and demand of landless peasants, President Kim Il Sung pushed forward the preparations for agrarian reform, including the confirmation of targets of land confiscation and methods of land confiscation and its distribution.

He also advanced a way to abolish the tenant system for good in the country, making deep study into every provision of the agrarian reform law.

On the basis of such preparations, he declared the enforcement of "Law on Agrarian Reform in North Korea" on March 5, Juche 35 (1946).

Under his leadership, the land reform was successfully carried out in the country, paving a wide avenue for the peasants to emerge masters of land and the country.
