Halt to Foal Eagle and Key Resolve Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, February 26 (KCNA) -- 39 civic and social organizations in south Korea including the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification, the Solidarity for Progress and the Citizens Solidarity for Democratic Society held a press conference outside the U.S. embassy in demand of halt to the U.S.-south Korea joint military drills and conclusion of peace treaty on Feb. 24, according to the south Korean internet paper Thongil News.

At the conference the speakers said Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military drills are provocative and risky ones as they are being staged at a time when the reunion of separated families and relatives from the north and the south is under way.

The on-going military exercises are escalating the danger of war on the Korean peninsula as the "tailored deterrence strategy" and the "joint plan for coping with the provocation of a local war" are to be applied for the first time and large-scale combined landing drills staged as a part of the exercises, they noted.

They strongly urged the authorities and the U.S. to immediately stop their joint military drills aimed to militarily stifle the north.

They demanded the U.S. roll back its hostile policy toward the DPRK and opt for the conclusion of a peace treaty with the latter.
