Customs for Spring Festival in Kaesong Area, DPRK
Pyongyang, January 31 (KCNA) -- Kaesong area in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea boasts of its traditional customs for the spring festival.

On the eve of the Lunar New Year's Day, its inhabitants clean up their houses and decorate wardrobes and screens with pictures of pines and cranes.

They prepare new farm implements in the hope of a rich harvest to come that year.

On the Lunar New Year's Day, they dress themselves with best clothes.

They pay New Year's greetings to their relatives, teachers and senior villagers.

As dishes for the day, they prepare rice-cake soup, glutinous rice cake, steamed rice cake, fancy rice cake, pancakes, fruits, liquor, etc.

The special cuisines in the area include fruit punch with dried persimmon and honey, sweet rice drink, sweet rice dish and kimchi wrapped in cabbage leaves.

Adults spend the holiday playing yut game, Korean chess and children playing kite-flying, sleigh-riding and rope-skipping.
