Traditional Korean Dishes on Lunar New Year's Day
Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) -- From olden times, the Korean people have taken special dishes on the Lunar New Year's Day.

Koreans have been told that only when having delicious dishes to their heart's content on the day can they expect a rich harvest and enjoy good health.

Typical of traditional dishes are varieties of rice cakes, including fancy rice cake, steamed rice-cake and glutinous rice-cake.

Fancy rice cake, pasted with no bean flour, is taken on the morning of the Lunar New Year's Day.

Steamed rice-cake is taken with mixtures of glutinous rice powder, black soybean, jujube, chestnut and honey. Inhabitants in Kaesong area would present steamed rice-cake put in the steamer to families of their in-laws.

Glutinous rice-cake is one of popular dishes among the Koreans.

Rice-cake soup, mixed with boiled meat of pheasant or chicken, is symbolic of dishes prepared on the day.

Mung-bean pancake is considered to be one of needed dishes on the day.

The holiday dishes also include honey cookie, fried glutinous rice cake and fruit punch.
