Halt to Suppression of Railway Trade Union and Railway Privatization Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, January 24 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and its regional headquarters held press conferences at Seoul and other 16 major railway stations across south Korea on Wednesday in protest against the suppression of the Railway Trade Union and privatization of railway service.

At the conferences speakers recalled that the chairman and other leading members of the trade union were detained and the railway corporation are pushing ahead with disciplinary measures against many unionists.

They denounced the corporation for demanding even compensation for damage and consolation money to the trade union.

They said that they cannot repress resentment at the manager of the corporation for begging the representative of the "Saenuri Party" to promote him.

They held that the strike of the trade union against privatization is just and legitimate.

They declared that they would go on a general strike on February 25 so as to crush the suppression of the trade union, make the detainees release and check the privatization.

They stressed that they would struggle to make the present chief executive and the manager of the corporation step down.
