The meeting, the first of its kind in the KPA history, was attended by Choe Ryong Hae, Jang Jong Nam and other officials of the Ministry of the People's Armed Forces, generals and other officers of the KPA, officials in the field of fisheries of the KPA and fishermen and captains who set an example in fishing this year.

So Hong Chan, first vice-minister of the People's Armed Forces, made a report which was followed by speeches.

The reporter and speakers said the path covered by the revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK is associated with patriotic devotion and deep loving care shown by the peerlessly great men of Mt. Paektu for soldiers.

In the early period of building the modern and regular armed forces after the liberation of Korea, President Kim Il Sung organized sideline work-teams of fishermen in the People's Army and clearly indicated the way and tasks for conducting sideline fishing in each period and at each stage of the developing revolution, performing undying feats for the development of fisheries till the last moments of his life.

With noble outlook on soldiers, leader Kim Jong Il worked heart and soul to make sure that a lot of fish is supplied to soldiers.

Despite the grim trials during the Arduous March he saw to it that a great number of fish breeding farms and catfish farms were built, and sent baggage boats and fishing tackles to units and sub-units situated along the seashores, thus making it possible to provide soldiers with fish all the year round.

Whenever he visited units and sub-units of the People's Army, he dropped in at mess halls and was greatly satisfied to see soldiers having food including fish.

The reporter and speakers said that Supreme Commander Kim Jong Un assigned to the People's Army the task to conduct sideline fishing and supply soldiers with more fish, and wisely led the drive for carrying it out, adding:

He also took measures to kindle a new torch of catching fish and saw to it that a socialist emulation drive was waged, thus making the whole army alive with fish catching.

Under his leadership a solid foundation was laid for actively conducting sideline fishing. He also sent all-purpose fishing boats having modern fishing equipment and tackles to make big fish hauls every day.

The reporter and speakers referred to the achievements and experience gained in the practical efforts for upholding the intention of the supreme commander on injecting fresh vitality into sideline fishing.

They stressed the need for officials in the field of fisheries and fishermen to work hard to bring about big hauls of fish next year, too, under the leadership of Kim Jong Un.

An appeal to all the officials in the field of fisheries and fishermen of the army was adopted at the meeting.

The appeal ardently called on them to become pioneers and shock forces in materializing the far-reaching plan of the supreme commander for supplying large quantities of fish to all defence posts of the country and reenergizing the fishing industry of the country.
