DPRK Witnesses Progress in Light Industry This Year
Pyongyang, December 26 (KCNA) -- The DPRK has made strides in consolidating the material and technical foundations for the light industry this year, increasing the production of consumer goods.

The Hamhung Knitwear Factory was equipped with up-to-date facilities while a velvet shop appeared at the Pakchon Silk Mill and process of yarn for knitwear at Hamhung Woolen Mill and some of the production processes were renovated at the Phyongsong Synthetic Leather Factory.

The Pyongyang Essential Foodstuff Factory put on the basis of the latest techniques all its production processes, including processes for refined oil, Vitamin-E and lecithin.

Meanwhile, production has been on steady increase at light industrial factories even under the difficult conditions caused by the imperialists' persistent sanctions.

The Kim Jong Suk Pyongyang Textile Mill, Kanggye Knitwear Factory, Pyongyang Hosiery Factory, Hamhung Silk Mill and many other economic units have overfulfilled their yearly quotas on all indices.

Cocoon production companies throughout the country turned out 200 more tonnes of silkworm cocoons than last year.

The Pyongyang Wheat Flour Processing Factory, Sonhung Foodstuff Factory, Sinuiju Cosmetics Factory and other factories under the Ministry of Food and Consumer Goods Industries swelled their production through a drive for new inventions and emulation for increased output.

Also, a work for updating production processes has been conducted at local industrial factories in Changsong, Yonthan, Usi and other counties. Those factories mass-produced popular consumer goods by making an effective use of locally available raw materials.

This year witnessed an increase of 10,000 more August 3 consumer goods production units across the country than last year's as well as invention of many new products.

Such exhibitions and shows were held as the National Exhibition of Consumer Goods, the 3rd Commodity Show and the National Exhibition of 206 Sundry Goods so as to encourage producers to turn out popular quality goods in a larger quantity.

The signal progress made in the country's light industry this year is attributable to the energetic guidance of supreme leader Kim Jong Un. He in his New Year address defined the light industry as the main thrust of the economic construction and indicated the tasks and ways for developing it at the national meeting of light industrial workers held in March.

The light industrial officials and workers are now striving to make greater progress in the efforts for bettering the people's living conditions as intended by Kim Jong Un.
