DPRK Shows Deep Care for Disabled Persons
Pyongyang, December 4 (KCNA) -- Officials related to the work with the disabled in the DPRK held a seminar here on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3). The seminar dealt with the successes and experience gained in their work after the adoption of the Law on Protection of the Disabled in June Juche 92 (2003).

In the DPRK the disabled persons are given the same legal rights and benefits as ordinary people's under the government's protection policy and it has become a tendency of society to preferentially treat and take warm care of them.

In recent years the DPRK has made a signal progress in the work with disabled persons.

Regular surveys have been made on their health conditions, recovery treatment and education and necessary measures taken to improve their situation. And activities have been conducted to give wide publicity to the contents of the Law on Protection of the Disabled and improve the system of work with the disabled.

This year the Munsu Recovery Center took its shape in Pyongyang. And the first sports establishment for the disabled is now under construction. It will include a gymnasium, training ground, recovery facility, etc.

The Amateur Table-Tennis Tournament has been held annually from Juche 99 (2010), with an aim to improve the health of disabled persons and make them enjoy their life in an optimistic manner. Consequently, the DPRK proved successful in swimming and table-tennis events of the 3rd Asian Youth Para Games.

Meanwhile, the DPRK has strengthened exchange and cooperation with other countries and international bodies in the field of protecting the disabled and signed the UN convention on rights of the disabled in July.

The seminar discussed on measures for improving the work with the disabled in conformity with the changed situation.
