Songi Mushroom Good for Health
Pyongyang, November 15 (KCNA) -- Pine forests of scenic Mt. Chilbo in North Hamgyong Province, the DPRK, are abundant in Songi mushroom (Tricholoma matsutake) well known at home and abroad.

Songi mushroom of Mt. Chilbo is peculiar in flavor, taste and soft fiber.

The mushroom is 8 to 20 cm across in its flat cap and 10 to 20 cm high in stipe when it reaches its full growth. The cap is of brown color, getting darker towards its center.

As it is very rich in protein and anti-carcinogenic substances, it has widely been accepted for the treatment of heart, liver and bronchus diseases.

Leader Kim Jong Il sent quantities of Songi mushroom gathered in Mt. Chilbo as gifts to Kim Dae Jung, former south Korean president, and his entourage and south Korean pressmen who visited Pyongyang in Juche 89 (2000), on the occasion of the Harvest Moon Day that year.

Its gathering season in the mountain covers days from mid-August to early October.
