24th National Software Contest, Exhibition Open
Pyongyang, October 29 (KCNA) -- The 24th national software contest and exhibition were opened with due ceremony at the Three-Revolution Exhibition House on Tuesday.

Presented to the events are at least 1,200 programs developed by scientists and technicians.

Among them are process-controlling programs, devices and elements presented from various fields of the national economy including coal, power and metal industries, railway transport, agriculture and light industry.

Also presented there are many programs conducive to building a sports power.

They include achievements made by ministries, national institutions and industrial establishments in raising the level of IT use and programs presented by teachers, researchers and students of the universities, colleges and centers for training computer talents.

The contest and exhibition are divided into 18 panels including operating system and security, artificial intelligence and Korean language information handling panels. There will also take place contests of English-Korean and Chinese-Korean translation programs and simulation sports games programs.

Participating in the opening ceremony were Choe Thae Bok, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Yong Jin, vice-premier of the Cabinet, officials concerned and program developers.

Choe Sang Gon, chairman of the State Science and Technology Commission, made an opening speech.
