Israeli Move to Expand Jewish Settlements under Fire
Pyongyang, October 23 (KCNA) -- The prospect of peace talks between Palestine and Israel remains dim due to the Israeli authorities' persistent move to expand Jewish settlements.

Late in July the peace talks resumed after nearly three years of hiatus.

Israel set free the first group of 26 Palestinian prisoners in August as a token of its "sincerity" towards the talks and promised to release the second group by late in October.

Holding out such carrot to Palestine, the Israeli authorities officially announced that Israel would build 800 Jewish settlements in East Kuds and 400 others in the West Bank behind the scene of the talks.

This double-dealing attitude of Israel is nothing but a mockery and deception of the international community.

Greatly enraged by this, Palestine and the international community are bitterly condemning the Israeli authorities for driving the peace talks to catastrophe.

King of Jordan Abdullah Ⅱ denounced the unilateral action of Israel to derail the Mideast peace process, warning that this would bring serious consequences to the regional peace process in the future.

Iranian Senior Cleric Ahmad Khatami said that Palestine-Israel peace talks would never help the oppressed Palestinians.

The foreign minister of Qatar termed Israel's ceaseless building of Jewish settlements as a hurdle lying in the way of making Palestine and Israel reach a peace agreement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey in a statement strongly demanded Israel lift at once such measures as the decision to build settlements.

Peace will never settle in the Mideast region unless Israel quits the territory of Palestine and it is achievable only through a struggle.
