DPRK Will Continue Working Hard for Peace: DPRK Delegate
Pyongyang, September 29 (KCNA) -- The head of the DPRK delegation made a speech at the ministerial meeting of the non-aligned movement held on the sidelines of the 68th UN General Assembly on Friday.

Over the past 50 odd years since its founding the NAM has made persistent efforts to establish the just and fair international relations under the banner of independence and equality, he said, and went on:

High-handed and arbitrary acts based on the logic of strength are still practiced in international relations and the principles of respect for sovereignty, equal sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries which are specified in the UN Charter and norms of international law governing the relations among countries are being wantonly violated.

Interference in internal affairs of sovereign countries, encroachment upon sovereignty, armed invasion and terrorist acts are being committed in an unbroken chain under the pretext of "anti-terrorism" and "prevention of proliferation."

A particular mention should be made of the fact that the peaceful and legitimate right of sovereign countries to develop outer space is called into question by the UN Security Council and a plane with a head of state aboard was grounded on an absurd charge.

Victims of the extreme high-handed and arbitrary practices are members of the NAM without exception.

For the NAM to drastically increase its position and role as political forces representing the interests of the developing countries, first it is necessary to further strengthen support and solidarity with the efforts of the member nations for defending sovereignty.

Second, it is imperative to increase the capability for joint actions to defend the interests of the member nations on the world stage including the UN.

If the NAM member nations which account for the overwhelming majority of the UN member nations get united for joint actions, they can have great political influence on fairly settling the issue of UN reform and other major issues for global peace, security, disarmament and human rights.

It is the consistent stand and fixed will of the DPRK to ensure peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and reunify the country by the concerted efforts of the Koreans.

The DPRK has recently proposed high-level talks between the authorities of the DPRK and the U.S. to have wide-ranging and frank discussions of the issues of defusing the tension on the Korean Peninsula and replacing the armistice mechanism by a peace one.

The DPRK will continue working hard to defend peace and stability.

It will continue responsible and patient efforts to achieve reconciliation, cooperation and reunification between the north and the south in the idea of "By our nation itself", holding high the banner of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration.
