The Asian Cup Weightlifting Championship has been held since 2011 while the Asian Interclub Weightlifting Championship has long been sponsored by the Asian Weightlifting Federation.

The on-going tournament represents the two championships, thereby coming under the spotlight of world's experts.

It is attended by the competition director of the International Weightlifting Federation, the general secretary of the Asian Weightlifting Federation and other figures of the world weightlifting circles.

The championship drew many weightlifters from 10 odd countries and regions.

Kim Kwang Dok, general secretary of the Korean Weightlifting Association, told KCNA:

"Some countries selected top weightlifters several times for the championship. The DPRK weightlifters, too, are well prepared in physical and technical aspects.

In cooperation with the Asian Weightlifting Federation, the Korean Weightlifting Association is now doing its best so that the championship can be conducive to developing the weightlifting techniques of countries and regions."
