Science and Technology Are Engine for Building Economic Power
Pyongyang, September 3 (KCNA) -- The State Science and Technology Commission of the DPRK dispatched members of the February 17 Shock Brigade of Scientists and Technicians to various fields of national economy. They are creditably playing their roles.

The shock brigade was formed by researchers, scientists and technicians of Kim Il Sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology, Pyongyang University of Mechanical Engineering, the Environmental Engineering Institute of the State Academy of Sciences and others. Its members solved a lot of scientific and technical problems at major factories and enterprises.

The shock brigade members active at the Sunchon Area Youth Coal Mining Complex raised the coal mining rate 30 percent over that in the past by introducing new type efficient equipment and props suited to coal bed conditions of the anthracite mines of the country.

They developed man-carrying cable car service as required by the actual conditions of coal pits. They also solved the issue arising in scientific weighing of coal. They, at the same time, made at least 20 research achievements, boosting the coal production.

Shock brigade members active at Pyongyang Rubber Factory replenished and rounded off modern processes, developing various sizes of gear belts and groove belts for different fields and improving their quality. This opened a prospect for radically increasing the production.

Pyongyang Trolley Bus Factory established a process for the production of new type trolley buses thanks to the painstaking inquiry made by shock brigade members dispatched to the field passenger service in Pyongyang.

Signal successes were also reported by shock brigade members active in the fields of underground resource prospecting, public health, etc.

The devoted efforts of the shock brigade members are giving strong spurs to the drive for building an economic power.
