KCNA Commentary Urges Disbandment of "UN Command"
Pyongyang, July 25 (KCNA) -- It is six decades since the conclusion of the Korean Armistice Agreement (AA) but peace and security are not ensured on the Korean Peninsula.

The ceaseless military actions including nuclear blackmail staged by the U.S. imperialists present in south Korea under berets of "UN Forces" are the main factor of the steadily escalating tension on the peninsula and its vicinity.

"The UN Command" is a war machine illegally made by the U.S. for the purpose of forming an anti-DPRK alliance by mobilizing troops of its satellite countries during the Korean War.

While keeping the "UN Command" in south Korea even after the truce, the U.S. claimed that the U.S. military presence there was requested by the UN to justify the command's presence. But this is a fabrication.

What merits a serious attention is that the U.S. is working hard to turn the command into a U.S.-led "multi-national coalition body" of a reinforced version, for the purpose of strengthening its military hegemony in the Asia-Pacific region.

This scenario is based on the "experience" gained by the NATO which played a major role as a military machine targeted on the former Soviet Union and the East European countries during the Cold War. This is, therefore, a very dangerous action aimed at laying a military siege to its potential rivals in the Asia-Pacific region and holding political and military edge in the region.

It is the most urgent demand of the times to dismantle the "UN Command" as early as possible because its disbandment was called for at the UN General Assembly as early as in the 1970s and force the U.S. forces to pull back from south Korea.

If the presence of the command and the U.S. aggressor forces in south Korea is overlooked, the U.S. will work harder to justify this presence and turn them into aggressor forces with "strategic flexibility" and convert the whole of the Asia-Pacific into a theatre for provoking a nuclear war.

It is the urgent demand for achieving peace and security on the peninsula and the rest of the Asia-Pacific to get the "UN Command" disbanded and the U.S. forces withdrawn from south Korea.

If the U.S. has a true intention to avert a war on the peninsula and ensure peace there, it should take a bold decision to dismantle the command without delay and get its forces withdrawn from south Korea.
