Rodong Sinmun Urges Improving North-South Relations
Pyongyang, July 24 (KCNA) -- Only when we respect the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and put them into practice, will the way open for saving the inter-Korean relations from stalemate, says Rodong Sinmun Wednesday in an article.

It goes on:

The over six decade-long history of national division teaches a serious lesson that the confrontation between the north and the south and the escalation of tension will bring continued division and horrible disaster of a war.

The DPRK has, therefore, made positive efforts to improve inter-Korean relations with broad magnanimity, though the tension has escalated on the Korean Peninsula owing to the confrontation moves of the south Korean authorities.

The present south Korean authorities, however, tried to make it appear that they are interested in the improved inter-Korean relations but, in fact, made desperate efforts to escalate the confrontation with compatriots in collusion with outside forces, while paying lip service to "trust".

Good opportunities for developing the inter-Korean relations have been provided recently. But the north and the south failed to achieve good results due to the anachronistic confrontation policy pursued by the south Korean authorities.

The north-south declarations serve as programmes for the country's reunification which correctly reflect the desire of the whole nation for the independent reunification and represent all the north-south agreements reached in the past.

Nothing can replace the north-south declarations in improving the inter-Korean relations and meeting the vital demand and interests of all the compatriots for independent reunification, peace and prosperity.

It is the will of all the Koreans to turn the inter-Korean relations into those of trust and reconciliation and realize the national unity and the country's reunification.

The article urges the south Korean authorities to lend an ear to the voices of all the Koreans and opt for the road of national reconciliation, unity and reunification.
