Peace March against Naval Base Construction Declared
Pyongyang, July 19 (KCNA) -- The peace march group for life of Kangjong village in south Korea held a press conference in Seoul on Wednesday at which it declared it would stage a peace march in protest against the construction of the Jeju naval base.

In a press release the march group condemned the illegal construction of the base.

The group recalled that people from all walks life aspiring after peace have staged strenuous actions in protest against the construction of the military base at Kangjong village on Jeju Province.

It has been confirmed that the naval base is now under construction according to the standard required by the U.S. Navy, the group noted, accusing the "government" of deceiving the people, asserting that it is civilian-oriented.

It assailed the present regime for walking away and detaining Kangjong villagers and activists for their protest actions and wantonly encroaching upon their human rights.

Neither violence nor pressure can ever quell resistance and stem the trend towards peace and justice, the group held.

The people of all social standings will never give up their protest actions but wage a dynamic action for peace, it said.

It stressed that through the six-day march it would let the world know that the Kangjong village would rise up again.
