Kim Il Sung Leads Korean War to Victory (3)
Pyongyang, July 16 (KCNA) -- In September Juche 39 (1950), when the Korean People's Army was forced to take a strategic temporary retreat in the Korean War (June 25, 1950 - July 27, 1953), President Kim Il Sung convened an operational meeting of the KPA Supreme Command and advanced a policy of forming the second front in order to reverse the war situation.

It was the first in the world's history of wars that large units of a regular army carried on military actions in the enemy rear.

In accordance with the policy, the second front was formed in a short time, with the KPA's 2nd Corps as main forces.

The units of the second front, in close cooperation with guerrilla units, actively launched combat actions against the U.S. and south Korean puppet forces, providing favorable conditions for counter-offensive operations on all fronts.

In the first operations held in the period of the 3rd stage of the war, they fought 200 odd battles, checking about 100 000 enemy troops from moving to the front line.

Until mid-December 1950, they killed or captured more than 31,200 enemy troops and seized an area covering nearly 30,000 square kilometers, making a big contribution to driving the aggressors back to the area south of the 38th parallel.

Such military achievements were attributable to Kim Il Sung's far-sighted military wisdom and superb commanding art.
