DPRK's Proposal for Talks Supported by Democratic Congo
Pyongyang, July 8 (KCNA) -- The paper of Democratic Congo L' Avenir on July 2 carried a commentary titled "The DPRK proposed the U.S. holding direct talks". It was illustrated with a photo of leader Kim Jong Il.

The commentary said:

The DPRK has been exposed to persistent threat and blackmail by the U.S. since the end of the Korean war in the 1950s.

Such situation has increased the danger of a new war on the Korean Peninsula where the state of neither war nor peace prevails.

The purpose of the DPRK's proposal is to create an atmosphere favorable for the peaceful reunification of the country.

The DPRK wishes for promoting free visits between the north and the south by bringing about detente and removing the barrier of division.

Now the ball is in the U.S. side. The U.S. should neither miss this opportunity nor employ double-dealing tactics.

It is contradiction that the U.S. keeps deploying a huge amount of nuclear missiles in south Korea and Japan while talking about "peace".

To the DPRK, south Korea and Japan are no more than puppets of the U.S. So the DPRK is of the view that true direct talks are possible only with the U.S.

The DPRK is sure of its proposal for peace.
