Meeting Held in S. Korea to Mark Anniversary of June 15 Joint Declaration
Pyongyang, June 18 (KCNA) -- Members of civic and social organizations of south Korea including the South Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration, opposition party figures and more than 1 000 people from all walks of life held a meeting before Rimjin Pavilion in Phaju, Kyonggi Province on June 15, the 13th anniversary of the June 15 joint declaration.

Ri Chang Bok, permanent representative of the committee, made an address.

He deplored that the talks between authorities of the south and the north of Korea proved abortive and the June 15 national joint events failed to take place.

Non-governmental reunification movement plays an important role in developing the inter-Korean relations, he said, adding that only when the people of different social standings become main players in the reunification movement, is it possible to revive the June 15 era and pave a way for reunification and peace.

Though the June 15 national joint events failed to take place, the day of the publication of the July 4 joint statement should be celebrated as an event common to the nation without fail, he noted, adding:

The committee will play its role for peace and reunification.

Then, the floor was taken by opposition party figures.

An appeal to all the Koreans at home and abroad adopted by the All-Korean Committee for Implementation of June 15 Joint Declaration was read out at the meeting.

At the end of the meeting, the participants staged a demonstration from Rimjin Pavilion to Thongil Bridge.
