KCU Boasts of Brilliant Tradition
Pyongyang, June 8 (KCNA) -- The Korean Children's Union (KCU) that originated from the Children's Corps organized in the period of the anti-Japanese armed struggle boasts of brilliant tradition in each stage of the Korean revolution.

During the anti-Japanese armed struggle, Kim Ki Song was shot to death by the Japanese "punitive" forces while he was diverting their pursuit elsewhere with trumpet in order to save the inhabitants of a guerrilla base from their attack.

A 9-year-old girl, Kim Kum Sun, died a heroic death, shouting "Long live the Korean revolution!", undaunted by harsh torture.

In the period of the Fatherland Liberation War (June 1950-July 1953), a number of KCU members bravely fought against the U.S. invaders with arms in hands. Among them were So Kang Ryom, Rim Hyong Sam and the members of the children's guard of the Anju Coal Mine.

In the 1970s, Ri Chang Do, who was a subbranch chairman of the Sinmyong Secondary School Committee of the KCU, sacrificed his life to quenching a forest fire with his classmates.

President Kim Il Sung saw to it that the Title of DPRK Hero was awarded to him for his patriotic deed.

Leader Kim Jong Il, on his way to military units in June Juche 85 (1996), caught a sight of wild flowers laid before a monument to Kim Il Sung's field guidance.

Learning that the flowers were laid by a schoolgirl called Kim Myong Hui, he took a measure to make her known throughout the country in high appreciation of her pure-minded deed.

Millions of KCU members, who greeted the 67th KCU anniversary, are now filled with determination to be intensely loyal to respected Marshal Kim Jong Un.
