Archery, Promising Event for DPRK
Pyongyang, May 30 (KCNA) -- The 50th National Games of Juvenile Sports Schools are now going on in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, with archery as one of the events.

In this regard, KCNA had an interview with O Kwang Sun, deputy secretary of the DPRK Archery Association.

Question: I know that archery has been regarded for the DPRK as a promising event at international tournaments. Can you tell me about the country's archery development?

Answer: Archery skills have improved remarkably under the care of the government.

Scores of archers selected from juvenile sports schools show good results in the ongoing games.

New national records have been set in the archery event in recent years. The April 25 Defense Sports Team made six new records in the 2011 National Championships and two new records were witnessed at the 12th People's Games (professional group) held in 2012.

Videos on archery skills have been applied to training.

We are paying big efforts to the improvement of archers' skills with an aim of making good results at the 31st Olympiad.

Q: What kinds of categories are there in the archery event?

A: Archery was listed as one of the Olympic events at the 20th Olympic Games and became varied in category with its repaid development on a worldwide scale.

Its categories include outdoor and indoor archery and distance archery. Outdoor archery is encouraged in the country.

Q: Would you tell me about the DPRK Archery Association?

A: Formed in March Juche 42 (1953), the Association joined the International Archery Federation in July 1961.

The DPRK proved successful at the 28th World Archery Championships and the 8th and 9th Asian Games.
