South Koreans Call for Conclusion of Peace Treaty
Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- Organizations of various circles in south Korea held a seminar for peace on the Korean peninsula in Kwangju on May 17.

Han Chung Mok, co-representative of the People's Action for Peace against War, said the conclusion of a peace treaty serves as the first step to defuse the danger of a war on the peninsula.

The conclusion of a peace treaty would lead to the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from south Korea, he noted, adding:

An international campaign demanding the conclusion of a peace treaty is under way with the forthcoming July 27 as an occasion and such actions are now under way throughout south Korea.

He called for making this year, the 60th anniversary of the Korean Armistice Agreement, a year of making a peace treaty.

Ri Sung Hwan, co-representative of the Joint Conference for Peace on Korean Peninsula, clarified ways for achieving peace.

Choe Jae Bong, priest of the Missionary Solidarity Council of Christian Community, underscored the need for all the people to unite as one and stage a mass campaign for achieving peace.

Choe Jin Mi, executive chairwomen of the Women's Solidarity, said her organization would release a peace declaration of women with the upcoming July 27 as an occasion.

Song Myong Hyon, room chief of the Council for Achieving Peace and Settling Situation in South Kyongsang Province of south Korea, said its regional organizations would stage practical actions.

Ju Kwan Chol, secretary general of the Headquarters of the Kwangju-South Jolla Provincial Movement for Making the Korean Nation One, called upon all the people to form a big trend for concluding a peace treaty this year.
