Rodong Sinmun Urges Japan to Redeem Its Past
Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- Japan should turn over a new leaf and follow the present international trend by which various other countries are making sincere efforts to break with the past and win trust of the international community, says Rodong Sinmun Monday in a bylined article.

It is a well-known fact that the Japanese imperialists inflicted irretrievable pain upon the Asian people including Koreans, notes the article, adding:

Nevertheless, Japan has neither admitted its sinful past nor made apology for it, let alone reparation.

On the contrary, absurd sophism distorting and whitewashing the past crimes is being heard throughout Japan. And those in power are taking the lead in it.

No wonder, Japan has been known internationally as a country which is very reluctant to repent of its sins, a country that justifies those crimes out of its inveterate evil habit.

However, it is not only out of its ingrained habit that Japan desperately works to falsify and justify its past crimes. Lurking behind this is its own ambition and calculation.

It is an invariable ambition of the Japanese reactionaries to realize their erstwhile dream of the "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere".

Another aim sought by Japan is to evade the reparation for its past crimes.

The world community is following with an Argus eye Japan's move of desperately shirking admittance, apology and reparation for its past crimes.

Japan should make an unconditional and thorough-going apology and reparation to Korea and other Asian countries upon which it inflicted huge damage during its past war and colonial rule over them.
