Chinese Media Calls for Int'l Movement for Peace Treaty in Korea
Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- Chinese website The 4th Media News in a Saturday appeal called for international movement for the conclusion of a peace treaty against war in the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Northeast Asia on the lapse of nearly six decades since the conclusion of the Korean Armistice Agreement (AA).

Noting that the Korean nation has remained divided since the 1953 AA in the peninsula and the DPRK has suffered unimaginable damage because of the U.S. ceaseless blockade and nuclear threats, the appeal said the world calls for peace against war for security in the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Northeast Asia. It declared as follows:

1. AA should be replaced by a permanent peace treaty without fail.

2. With the signing of a peace treaty the U.S. forces should immediately withdraw from south Korea. Only then can Koreans in the north and the south and overseas pool their efforts to achieve peaceful reunification according to their own determination and without any hindrance of outside forces.

3. The Asia-Pacific region should remain a region of future, a region of peaceful co-existence and co-prosperity.

4. The Korean Peninsula, Asia-Pacific region and the rest of the world should not be a plaything of warmongers and military monopolies in their design to disturb peace, security and prosperity of mankind and escalate military tension, and that of big powers displaying their strength with an eye on supremacy.

The appeal urged to replace the dead AA with a permanent peace treaty.
