Moves to Tighten S. Korea-U.S. Alliance Censured in S. Korea
Pyongyang, May 10 (KCNA) -- The "People's Force for Building a New Society" of south Korea held a press conference in Seoul on May 7 in protest against the moves to tighten the alliance with the U.S.

The speakers at the conference recalled that it is almost 60 years since the conclusion of the south Korea-U.S. "mutual defense treaty".

They denounced the south Korean and U.S. authorities for rattling the nerves of the north through their joint military drills and increasing the danger of war on the Korean Peninsula.

All south Korean people stand for the withdrawal of the U.S. troops and independence, not alliance with the U.S., they held, and went on:

We are opposed to any action to spark a crisis on the peninsula, talking about alliance with the U.S., and repeat such humiliating behavior as was manifested during the negotiations on the import of American beef in 2008.

The "government" will face strong popular resistance should it go against the people's desire, they warned.
