Chongmyong, Traditional Holiday of Korean Nation
Pyongyang, April 5 (KCNA) -- Chongmyong is one of the 24 seasonal divisions in a year. It falls on April 5 or 6 every year.

It is a traditional custom for Korean families and relatives to have a get-together on the day to tend or remove ancestral graves.

Kong Myong Song, director of the Folklore Institute under the Academy of Social Sciences, told KCNA:

On the day, Koreans have used to pay tribute to the memory of their ancestors.

At graves, they look back upon the life of their own ancestors while taking dishes prepared for the memorial service.

The day marks the beginning of a yearly farming, with the start of sowing of various crops.

It was also one of traditional customs to sow seeds of flowering plants in courtyards of houses.
