Koreans Protest against Exclusion of Korean Schools from Tuition-Waiver Program
Pyongyang, April 3 (KCNA) -- A rally took place in Tokyo on March 31 in protest against the exclusion of Korean schools from the tuition-waiver program for senior high schools.

Attending the rally were officials of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) in Kanto and other areas of Japan, Koreans, teachers and students of Joson University and Korean high schools and Japanese figures, at least 7 500 in all.

The representative of the Liaison Council against the Exclusion of Korean Schools from the Tuition-Waiver Program for Senior High Schools, Japanese organization, and Japanese of various social standings made speeches.

The speakers said it is a shameful history of Japan that it deprived Korea of sovereignty, land and written and spoken Korean languages and names early in the 20th century.

National chauvinism stalks in Japan and there are serious moves to retrogressively revise the Pacifist Constitution in the Japanese Diet, they deplored.

The first thing the Abe regime did after taking power was the exclusion of Korean schools from the tuition-waiver program, they said, stressing that such an outrageous act should never be tolerated.

They strongly demanded that the Japanese government apply the tuition-waiver program to Korean schools immediately, and the local autonomous bodies soon resume the payment of aid fund.

Koreans of all social standings made speeches.

They pledged to wage an unflinching struggle to defend Korean schools and students.

A report on the activities for the aid to Korean schools was made at the rally.

A resolution was adopted.

After the rally, the participants marched along the streets.

Right-wing gangsters tried to block the march, being backed by the police.
