Torch-lighting Ceremony of Int'l Martial Arts Games Held
Pyongyang, April 3 (KCNA) -- A ceremony of lighting the torch of the 5th International Martial Arts Games took place in Pyongyang on Wednesday.

The torch lit at the flame-holder of martial arts games in Chongchun Street here will be conveyed to the flame-holder of the opening ceremony of the 5th International Martial Arts Games to be held in Australia in May.

Present at the ceremony were Ri Jong Gun, secretary general of the International Martial Arts Games Committee, Kim Kyong Ho, chairman of the Korean Taekwon-Do Committee, officials concerned, martial arts players, people and school youth and children in Pyongyang.

Fritz Wendland, founding president of the World Karate Confederation who is also vice-chairman of the games committee, Li Zonglin, chairman of the Marketing Commission of the games committee, and foreign diplomatic envoys and representatives of international organizations here were on hand.

Speeches were made.

The speakers expressed the belief that the 5th International Martial Arts Games would develop the international martial arts movement to a new phase and mark an important occasion in contributing to building a peaceful new world.

Ri Jong Gun handed over the torch to the torch-carriers.

The carriers ran along Chongchun Street.
