S. Korean Organizations Accuse Director of Puppet Intelligence Service of Abusing Power
Pyongyang, March 24 (KCNA) -- Civic and public organizations of south Korea including the Bar Association for Democratic Society and the Citizens Solidarity for Genuine Democracy on March 21 accused the director of the Intelligence Service (IS) of abusing power at the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office.

Shortly ago, a document was made public by a lawmaker from the Unified Democratic Party which contained instructions given by the director to his staff.

The document is reported to contain the contents on coping with the public opinion over the "forces following the north", conducting massive propaganda campaign for the improvement project of four large rivers, intensifying the anti-DPRK psychological warfare and holding in check some organizations' activities of criticizing the "government" during the "presidential" election campaign last year.

The organizations said that all these were aimed to intensify the anti-DPRK psychological warfare and build up the public opinion favorable for the "government" and the ruling party.

It is obliviously abuse of power that they cracked down on the activities of legitimate organizations and exercised their influence even to the right to discipline on government employees, the organizations held.

They urged the prosecution authorities to severely punish those who had been involved and eradicate the IS's political intervention.

The representative of the Unified Progressive Party on March 19 charged the director of the IS with posting on website an article which called for enacting a "law more effective than the Security Law" as for the candidates from opposition parties in a bid to label them "forces following the north" at the "presidential election" campaign. The representative sued those who were behind it to the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office for libel.
