Memorial Service for Korean Victims of Great Quake in Eastern Japan Held
Pyongyang, March 17 (KCNA) -- A joint memorial service for the Korean victims of great earthquake in eastern Japan was held in the Korean primary and middle school in Tohoku, Miyagi Prefecture of Japan on Mar. 11 on the occasion of the second anniversary of the disaster.

Present at the event were Pak Ku Ho, vice-chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) who is concurrently chairman of its Rights and Welfare Committee, and the chairmen of the headquarters of the organization in the locality, and leading officials of each bodies under Chongryon, and bereaved families of Korean victims, and Korean quake sufferers, and other Koreans.

The participants observed a moment silence to the memory of the Korean victims.

Read out at the event was a memorial writing from the DPRK Committee for Overseas Koreans.

Ri Yong Sik, chairman of the Miyagi Prefectural headquarters of Chongryon, made a memorial address.

He said that leader Kim Jong Il was the first to send a message and money of sympathy to Koreans at a time when the whole of Japan was thrown into chaos by the largest-ever quake and tsunami.

The money associated by his love served as life-giving water that led the Chongryon organizations and Koreans in the disaster-stricken areas to the reconstruction and recovery, the speaker said, adding that they would always remember this love and care generation after generation.

He vowed to direct big efforts into providing the bereaved families and Koreans in the disaster-hit areas with stable life and make national character pervade the Koreans' community so as to let it prosper with mutual support and assistance under the leadership of the dear respected Marshal Kim Jong Un.

Then followed speeches.

The participants placed wreaths for the victims.
