More Youths Volunteer for Military Service
Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- Young people across the country turned out in a sacred war for national defence in response to the statement issued by a spokesman for the Supreme Command of the Korean People's Army (KPA).

The number of young people who volunteered to join or rejoin the KPA has reached one million and hundreds of thousands.

The officials of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League are full of firm determination to display the spirit of the Songun youth vanguard.

More than 200 000 youths petitioned to join or rejoin the army in Pyongyang only.

Hundreds of thousands of youths including workers, farmers and intellectuals across the country vowed to stand at the posts for national defence.

Youths of industrial establishments and co-op farms in different parts of the country including the Kim Jong Suk Pyongyang Textile Mill, the Chollima Steel Complex, the Sunchon Area Youth Coal Mining Complex and Township Co-op Farm, Phyonggang County, volunteered to join the KPA.

Meetings for petitioning to join or rejoin the army took place at universities and collages across the country including Kim Il Sung University and Kim Hyong Jik University of Education, and hundreds of thousands of youths petitioned to join the army.

Many students of the graduating classes at secondary schools in different parts of the country ardently petitioned to join the army.

Many students who had entrance examinations to schools of higher level also petitioned to join the army, instead of going to universities.

Meanwhile, officials of the youth league and school youth and children provided over 169 000 pieces of aid materials in at least 150 kinds when taking the country as a whole and sent them to service personnel. -0-
