March 1 Popular Uprising of Koreans Staged against Japanese Aggressors
Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- The March 1 Popular Uprising in Juche 8 (1919) was an eruption of the Korean people's pent-up rage at the Japanese imperialists' fascist colonial rule over Korea.

With a demonstration in Pyongyang as its start, the uprising swept across all the 13 provinces of the country, spreading even to the Korean compatriots elsewhere such as Manchuria, Shanghai, the Maritime Province of Siberia and Hawaii and thus becoming truly nationwide resistance. More than two million people joined in it in three months.

Upset by such developments, the Japanese imperialists began to quench the uprising with mobilization of all Japanese troops in Korea as well as six battalions and hundreds of military policemen hurled from the Japan proper.

Under the approval that they may kill the uprisers, they brutally murdered them.

In Seoul, a Japanese cavalry swooped on a throng of demonstrators, mangling to death a girl student who was shouting "Independence of Korea!"

More than 100,000 people were killed in the uprising. The monstrous killings of the uprisers clearly showed the inhumane nature of the Japanese imperialists.

Now the Japanese reactionaries have openly denied such hideous crimes Japan committed against the Korean people during its occupation of Korea, while inciting antagonism towards the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Korean residents in Japan over the measures taken by the DPRK in defence of its dignity and security.

This is tantamount to encroachment upon the DPRK's sovereignty and an undisguised challenge to justice.

The DPRK people will certainly make Japan pay dearly for its past crimes.
