Japan's Abuses of Koreans' Rights Slammed
Pyongyang, February 23 (KCNA) -- The Korean Human Rights Association in Japan issued a statement on Feb. 20 denouncing the Japanese government for getting evermore pronounced in the human rights abuses against the students of Korean schools in Japan with the DPRK's satellite launch for peaceful purpose and nuclear test for self-defense as occasions.

The statement said:

The Japanese authorities are pushing for additional "measures on sanctions," openly infringing upon the right of vice-chairmen of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan to visit their homeland. Against this backdrop a disturbing atmosphere of national chauvinism reigning in the Japanese society has reached such a dangerous phase that it is no longer tolerable.

Moreover, inhuman and wanton human rights abuses are openly perpetrated against the right to learn of students at Korean schools.

The right of the Koreans in Japan to national education is the basic human rights recognized by the International Treaty on Human Rights and the Treaty on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. Therefore, Japan is obliged to observe those treaties.

This being a hard reality, some self-governing bodies of Japan are taking an unreasonable step of suspending the payment of educational subsidies to Korean schools, talking about a political reason.

The statement strongly condemned the Japanese authorities' discriminating actions against the Koreans and Korean schools in Japan as unpardonable, base and grave human rights abuses.

It urged the Japanese government to stop at once the unreasonable human rights abuses and sincerely fulfil its legal duty to guarantee all the rights including the right of Koreans in Japan to national education.
