Japan's "Sanctions" against Chongryon Slammed
Pyongyang, February 21 (KCNA) -- The Central Standing Committee of the Korean Youth League in Japan issued a statement on Feb. 20 denouncing the Japanese authorities for their vicious "sanctions" against the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon).

The Korean youth and students in Japan strongly protested against the Japanese government's unreasonable additional "sanctions" against Chongryon, the statement said, adding:

Japanese Prime Minister Abe called for the additional "sanctions" and in a "statement" took a step to prohibit the reentry to Japan of the vice-chairmen of Chongryon from the DPRK to which they made visits.

Their crackdown upon Chongryon organizations and Koreans in Japan being committed as part of "sanctions" is, indeed, ruthless and uncouth.

Due to the step of embargo on ship Mangyongbong-92, it has become hard for the aged, invalid and disabled Koreans in Japan to visit the homeland. Students of Korean schools suffer the increase in financial burden as they have to conduct study tour of the homeland by air. We, youth and students, cannot repress the mounting anger over the artificial restrictions that have become increasingly tougher.

The Japanese authorities restrict vice-chairmen of Chongryon from conducting free activities, while groundlessly charging that they are "of the stand of rendering substantial help to the authorities of north Korea as their staff members". This is the revelation of the dirty political ambition of the Japanese authorities to stifle Chongryon.

We can never allow their step on "sanctions" as it is brutal and inhuman one to threaten and blackmail the DPRK by treating Koreans in Japan as hostages, pursuant to the policy of discriminating against Koreans.

We will pool the efforts with conscientious Japanese youth and students to turn out in the effort for improving the relations between the DPRK and Japan.

All the Korean youth and students in Japan strongly demand the Japanese government give up the policy of discriminating against the Korean nation and lift the "sanctions" at once.
