17th Kimjongilia Festival Closes
Pyongyang, February 21 (KCNA) -- The 17th Kimjongilia Festival closed with due ceremony at the Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia Exhibition on Thursday. It opened on Feb. 14 to mark the birth anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il.

More than 400 000 people visited the venue of the festival. Among them were senior officials of the party, state and army, officials of party, armed forces and power bodies, social organizations, ministries and national institutions, service personnel, people from all walks of life and school youth and children.

It was also visited by the chief of the Pyongyang mission of the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front, delegations of overseas Koreans, diplomatic envoys of foreign countries, representatives of international organizations, members of the military attaches corps and the economic and commercial councilors corps here, and many overseas compatriots and foreign guests.

Present at the closing ceremony were Kim Ki Nam, Yang Hyong Sop, officials concerned, officials of ministries and national institutions, service personnel, people of different social standings, school youth and children.

It was also attended by the delegation of Koreans in Japan for celebrating the Day of the Shining Star, foreigners and Chinese residents here.

Diplomas of the top prize were awarded to the Ministry of the People's Armed Forces, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ponghwa Guidance Bureau and others and diplomas of special prize went to the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan and the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea.

Diplomas of the best prize, prize for excellence, festival organization prize and festival art prize were awarded to many units.

Those who raised Kimjongilia at a high scientific and technological level received diplomas of prize of cultivating technology, dozens of service personnel, people, school youth and children, overseas Koreans, foreigners, Chinese residents in the DPRK received diplomas of prize of merits and prize of display and certificates of the participants in the festival.

Kim Chang Do, chairman of the Korean Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia Committee, in his closing address called upon service personnel, people, officials and scientists in the field of horticulture, flower lovers and members of the societies for disseminating and supporting Kimilsungia and Kimjongilia in different countries to boost exchange and cooperation in flower cultivation and dissemination in the future, too, to make the flowers of the sun bloom more beautifully.
