Day of Shining Star Commemorated Abroad
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- Events took place in various countries on the occasion of the birth anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il (the Day of the Shining Star).

They included a lecture in Russia, a joint seminar, book and photo exhibition and film show in the U.K. and round-table talks in Austria, Democratic Congo and Malaysia between Feb. 7 and 9.

On display in the venues were photos of Kim Jong Il and the dear respected Kim Jong Un.

Books, including works of President Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il and Kim Jong Un, and photos showing the efforts of the Korean people for building a thriving nation were also exhibited.

The chairman of the Karelia-DPRK Friendship Association of Russia praised Kim Jong Il as the great leader who devoted his all to the prosperity of the DPRK and its people's happiness.

He developed the Workers' Party of Korea into an ever-victorious guiding force, the DPRK into an impregnable socialist state and strengthened the Korean People's Army into an invincible army, the chairman added.

The general secretary of the Central Committee of the New Communist Party of Britain, the chairman of the British Association for the Study of Songun Policy and other speakers lauded the feats Kim Jong Il performed for freedom and emancipation of people, reunification and prosperity of the country and global independence.

They voiced strong opposition to the imperialists' all sorts of defamation and sanctions against the DPRK and positive support to the DPRK's the space development for peaceful purposes, its independent right.

The executive secretary of a district committee in Kinshasa City of the People's Party for the Reconstruction and the Democracy of Democratic Congo said Kim Jong Il, an outstanding thinker and theoretician, developed the DPRK into an politico-ideological power and military power by successfully embodying the Juche idea founded by Kim Il Sung.

A letter to Kim Jong Un was adopted at an event held in Britain.
