Songun Policy, Key to Defending Peace
Pyongyang, January 26 (KCNA) -- The Songun (military-first) policy of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is a mode of politics that should be constantly maintained as long as the imperialists stick to aggression moves.

The policy, pursued by leader Kim Jong Il in an all-round way in the 1990s, calls for priority to the military affairs to cope with any aggression moves.

The history teaches a serious lesson that any country with weak military muscle can not but be made a victim of aggression and armed intervention by hostile forces.

It is an invariable principle that a country can defend its sovereignty only with arms.

The United States has long intensified military pressure on the DPRK in a bid to stifle it by dint of force.

Owing to the war exercises staged by the U.S. forces frequently in and around south Korea, a war may break out any moment in the Korean Peninsula.

However, the DPRK with powerful military strength has taken decisive steps to meet the U.S. military threat, demonstrating its dignity and might in every showdown with the U.S.

The practical experience gained by the DPRK people shows that the Songun policy reliably ensures the existence and future of the country and the nation as well as victory in the cause of socialism, the cause of independence of the popular masses.

Peace can be defended only by powerful military strength, not by means of begging and compromise.
