S. Korean Prosecution Rapped for Cracking Down on Innocent Citizens
Pyongyang, January 24 (KCNA) -- The south Korean paper Hangyore editorially condemned the prosecution for desperately seeking to impose penalty upon participants in candlelight demonstrations.

The editorial denounced the prosecution for appealing against the acquittal of the citizens who took part in the demonstrations opposing the authorities' move to import American beef in the year 2008.

It said:

It is unreasonable to punish innocent citizens under the signboard of "rule of law" while leaving intact the chief culprit that spawned the demonstration.

The demonstrations stemmed from the "government's" wrong negotiations with the U.S. It is quite natural to demand the "government" renegotiate with the U.S. as the former puts the interests with the U.S. above the health of the people.

Nevertheless, the "government," the ruling party and the conservative media shifted the responsibility on to the media that disclosed the injustice of the beef import in a bid to make the public convince that citizens were abused by the media.

Citing the investigation into scandals of men in power, the editorial said it is disgusting to see the prosecution exercising double-standards by which it becomes quite weak before the heavyweights while wielding power against poor citizens.
